"And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?"
Luke 6:46
Part 2
Yesterday:
“And why call ye me, Lord, Lord?”
Jesus isn’t impressed by what someone politely calls Him.
Today:
Jesus does seem to be impressed with those who listen to Him and obey what He says.
“And why call ye me, Lord, Lord?”
“And do not the things which I say?”
In the Lord’s way of looking at life, knowledge is not the highpoint of devotion to the Lord, obedience is! It’s not that Bible knowledge isn’t essential, it is vital! Without any knowledge of the Word, there can be no salvation. But what we know about the Bible alone does not prove we have faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Many people have facts, but no faith! What shows our belief system is real is our actions. It is in going beyond what Jesus taught, to obeying Him, and putting into action what Jesus said.
The LORD saw through the phony words and works of the Children of Israel’s Priests when He said,
“A son honoureth his father, and a servant his master: if then I be a father, where is mine honor? And if I be a master, where is my fear? Saith the LORD of hosts unto you, O priests, that despise my name. And ye say, Wherein have we despised thy name?” (Malachi 1:6).
“If I am your Father, why haven’t you honored me?”
“If I am your Master, why do you not fear me (obey me)?
In fact, these men who were the spiritual leaders for the nation hated the very name of the LORD.
“O priests, that despise my name!”
These men did not believe in the LORD, or in His Word. The proof was brought to light by their wrong actions toward Him!
Believers, could we be guilty of the same sin of indifference that the priests of Israel were? Let’s remind ourselves of Jesus words,
“Not everyone that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven” (Matthew 7:21).
Believers, are we obedient to Jesus Christ?
Quote: “If ye love me, ye will keep my commandments” (John 14:15).
