"And many of them that slept in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt."
Daniel 12:2
Part 2
Yesterday:
“And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake.”
The resurrection is coming! Will you be ready?
“Some to everlasting life.”
Believers will be raised to everlasting life. They will spend eternity with their God and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Today:
“And some to shame and everlasting contempt.”
Those who do not know Jesus Christ will arise from the dead also. But rather than a time of joy and praise, it will be a time of “shame and everlasting contempt.”
“Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation” (John 5:28-29).
“Everlasting contempt: The terror of Hell never ends. There is not blissful annihilation after some period of punishment. This passage denies a rising doctrine within the church, a modified annihilationism that teaches that unjustified sinners are sent to Hell, and they suffer torment for a while, but then their beings perish for eternity”[1] (Guzik).
“There would be no way possible in the Greek language to state more emphatically the everlasting punishment of the lost than here in mentioning both day and night and the expression ‘forever and ever,’ literally ‘to the ages of ages.’”[2] (Walvoord)
Knowing what the Bible teaches about death and Hell, what advice might Daniel counsel God’s child today? “Believers be wise!”
“And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament, and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars forever and ever” (Daniel 12:3).
Now is the time to witness for Christ, now is the time to be a proclaimer of righteousness, now is the time to preach repentance!
