"Thou crownest the year with thy goodness, and thy paths drop fatness."
Psalm 65:11
Part 2
Yesterday:
“Thou crownest the year with thy goodness;”
God blesses the year. His children need to pay attention to the various ways He blesses the year (and us in the year).
Today:
“And thy paths drop fatness.”
Our sovereign God cares about we earthlings and blesses the earth for us.
Some speak of His “paths” as “chariot-tracks.”
“The chariot-tracks (vid., Deu 33:26) drop with exuberant fruitfulness, even the meadows of the uncultivated and, without rain, unproductive pasture land (Job 38:26.).” [1]
The Word teaches us that God’s paths are always the right way for us.
“Shew me thy ways, O LORD; teach me thy paths” (Psalm 25:4).
“All the paths of the LORD are mercy and truth unto such as keep his covenant and his testimonies” (Psalm 25:10).
The Lord’s paths, “drop fatness.” This is a picture of “fertility.”
“The word rendered ‘drop,’ means properly to distil; to let fall gently, as the rain or the dew falls to the earth; and the idea is, that whereever [sic.] God goes, marching through the earth, fertility, beauty, abundance seems to distil or to fall gently along his path. God, in the advancing seasons, passes along through the earth, and rich abundance springs up wherever he goes” [2] (Barnes).
We are so blessed because we can enter this new year, trusting our Lord to care for our needs no matter where His paths lead us.
“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart, and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths” (Proverbs 3:5-6).
LORD, we look to you for our direction and guidance in this new year. We will follow your path faithfully.
