"And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely."
Revelation 21:6
Part 1
What a glorious prophetic picture of God on His throne is given to us in our verse for today.
“And he said unto me, It is done.”
“He said.” “He,” Jesus Christ is the one speaking while He is sitting on the throne.
“And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful, (Revelation 21:5).
Jesus Christ is speaking to the writer, John. What “is done?” “It is done,” may be translated, “they are come to pass,”1 or “they have come to pass.”2 That is His words have come to pass. Everything He has said in this book up to this point in writing has happened as prophesied, and all things are now ready for the eternal state.
“I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end.”
Here are words that Jesus used to describe Himself.
“I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty,” (Revelation 1:8).
“Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches which are in Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea,” (Revelation 1:11).
The “alpha” is the first letter of the Greek alphabet. Omega is the last letter. Jesus is called “The Alpha and The Omega.” Jesus Christ is “the beginning,” the First Cause, and “the end,” the Finish. And from first to last, He is the One whom no one has preceded, nor will any come after Him. From the Old Testament to the New Testament, He is the only God.
“Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me, there is no God,” (Isaiah 44:6).
“I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last,” (Revelation 22:13).
There is no other God than the Living God of the Bible!
What does this first, last, and only God promise? Come back tomorrow and let’s see what He does.
