"For the righteous LORD loveth righteousness; his countenance doth behold the upright."
Psalms 11:7
“For the righteous LORD loveth righteousness;”
Jehovah is righteous. Because He is the righteous God, He loves those who are also righteous. He loves those who are like Him. He is inherently righteous, it is a part of His nature. He cannot sin or even be tainted by any degree of sin. This is troublesome to the sinner who is rebellious and full of sin. The sinner knows he cannot stand in God’s sight, this should be cause for great worry. But the saved man, living in tune with His LORD is reassured by God’s righteousness. He wants to live to please His God. As a believer, he knows that he lives only in Christ’s righteousness.
“His countenance doth behold the upright.”
Knowing that God’s eye is on the righteous is of great comfort to His child. He knows us, He sees us, and He cares for our needs. This is not to say that God only sees the righteous, for that is not so.
“The LORD is in his holy temple, the LORD’S throne is in heaven: his eyes behold, his eyelids try, the children of men,” (Psalm 11:4).
The blessing of being in God’s constant attention for the believer is that we are always safe. He sees and knows where we are and what our condition is twenty-four/seven.
“The argument is, that God would be his [“the righteous” man’s] defender, and that he might safely rely on His protection. The wicked have everything to fear; the righteous, nothing. The one is never safe; the other, always. The one will be delivered out of all his troubles; the end of the other can be only ruin,”1 (Barnes).
As you go about your activities today just remember that the LORD sees you at all times. This will either be a blessing or a dread, depending on your relationship to Him.
