The LORD’s Paths (Part 2 of 2)

Those who are conformed to His Word, find His lovingkindness in the path of service.

"All the paths of the LORD are mercy and truth unto such as keep His covenant and His testimonies."

Psalm 25:10

Part 2

Yesterday:
“All the paths of the LORD.”
“Are mercy and truth.”

Today:
“Unto such as keep his covenant.”
“Unto such.”  The redeemed of the LORD will keep His covenant.

“The redeemed…and righteous worshippers are the subject of this Psalm”[1] (Bullinger).

“Redeem Israel, O God, out of all his troubles” (Psalm 25:22).

Salvation is only of the LORD.  His “redeemed” people will,

“Keep His covenant”
The Lord set up a covenant with Abraham and authorized it by circumcision (Genesis 17:2-9).

“And God said unto Abraham, Thou shalt keep my covenant therefore, thou, and thy seed after thee in their generations.  This is my covenant, which ye shall keep, between me and you and thy seed after thee; Every man child among you shall be circumcised” (Genesis 17:9-10).

And God ratified His covenant with His people at Mt. Sinai (Exodus 19:5; 24:7-8).  The Ark of the Covenant was the outward sign.  The Ten Commandments (“ten words”) written on tables of stone, within the Ark was their “fundamental charter” (Deuteronomy 9:9).[2]

“Now, therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine: And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.  These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel” (Exodus 19:5-6).

“Keep therefore the words of this covenant, and do them, that ye may prosper in all that ye do” (Deuteronomy 29:9).

Here is the key for Israel to keep the Covenant with Her God:  God laid out His Covenant promises for Israel.  What was He looking for in return for all that He has done for her?  This is it!  As they say, this is the “recipe for the secret sauce.”  God wanted Israel’s heart, as proven by her obedience!  It is not difficult for His people to understand.  God was looking for faithful, loving obedience from them.  Their obedience to Him will prove their trust in Him.

“If thy children will keep my covenant and my testimony that I shall teach them, their children shall also sit upon thy throne for evermore” (Psalm 132:12).

For the Children of Israel, “to keep my covenant” was to obey the LORD.

“And his testimonies.”
Jehovah’s “testimonies” are His commandments, and these are witnesses to His will.

“The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple” (Psalm 19:7).

“Gracious souls, by faith resting upon the finished work of the Lord Jesus, keep the covenant of the Lord, and, being sanctified by the Holy Spirit, they walk in his testimonies; these will find all things co-working for their good, but to the sinner, there is no such promise”[3] (Spurgeon).

Believer, what is it that our God is looking for from us today?  At the heart of God’s purpose, is not He looking for our complete obedience to Him?

Quote:  “Now, therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be my own possession from among all peoples: for all the earth is mine” (Exodus 19:5).
