The Lord Is My Refuge (Part 2 of 2)

Believer, are you oppressed and troubled?  Run to God for your refuge!

May 14, 2020

"The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble. And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, LORD hast not forsaken them that seek thee."

Psalm 9:9-10

Part 2

Yesterday:
“The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed.”
He is a high tower for His downtrodden child.

“A refuge in times of trouble.”
He is there for us when impossible obstacles face us.

“And they that know thy name.” (a)
He is there for those who know Him personally.

Today:

“And they that know thy name.” (b)
What a great advantage we have because we know the LORD.

“But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee” (Psalm 5:11).

“Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high because he hath known my name” (Psalm 91:14).

“Will put their trust in thee.”
It is a simple fact of life; we do not trust people that we do not know.  The people we believe the most are the ones that we know the best.  What does it take to gain that kind of trust?  The only way possible is by spending a lot of time together.  And so we understand that the only way to really learn to trust our God is by spending time with Him.

“Calamity drives us to God.  The more we know the more we trust Him.  Doubt is born of ignorance”[1] (Meyer).

“The more intimate our knowledge of God, the more entirely shall we trust in him; the more we learn of his real character, the more shall we see that he is worthy of universal love.  It is much to say of anyone that the more he is known the more he will be loved; and in saying this of God, it is but saying that one reason why men do not confide in him is that they do not understand his real character”[2] (Barnes).

“For thou, LORD, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.”
David knew from his own account with God that He is faithful.  Never did David run to God for help that God refused him.  This is David’s testimony.  Is it your testimony also?  Have you experientially, in your need, run to God for help?  Have you found Him to be faithful to meet your needs?  If not, do you know His name?  Have you experienced His grace and mercy?  Do you know Him as your Savior?

Thank you, Lord, that you never forsake your child who seeks you for help.
