The King is Coming!

God's will is done in heaven.  When Christ returns it will be done on earth as well.

"Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven."

Matthew 6:10

Many people, not only believers, acknowledge a desire for Jesus, the Messiah to return to earth again.  There are various reasons why people might welcome Jesus back again.  Some want the world to be an ecological greenhouse where the “ desert shall rejoice, and blossom as the rose,” (Isaiah 35:1).  Others are looking forward to the Prince of Peace, keeping the peace on this war-torn planet (Isaiah 9:6).  A totally theocratic rule on the earth is awaited by some (Revelation 19:15).  One thing is sure—when Jesus Christ returns in power and glory, to rule upon this earth—things will be different here.  Now we understand, in this age, our world is broken, and mankind, in general, could care less about God, or what His plans are.  His return will correct all the ills of today.

When we pray, “Thy Kingdom come,” we are asking for the King to return!  Without the King, there is no kingdom.  So we pray, “Thy Kingdom come.”  The glory of the coming Kingdom is it’s King.

When Jesus comes again …

People will talk about His power, and the glory of His Kingdom, (see Psalm 145:11).

He will make His Kingdom an eternal kingdom, (see Psalm 145:13).

His Kingdom will be established with judgment and justice, (see Isaiah 9:7).

His Kingdom will be ruled righteously, (see Hebrews 1:8; from Psalm 45:6).

The nations that refuse to serve God will be wasted, (see Isaiah 60:12).

His Kingdom will be exalted above every nation, (see Daniel 7:14-27).

His Kingdom will be the last worldwide empire, (see Isaiah 9:7).

As you can understand, not everyone is excited for the Lord to return.  It just stands to reason that anyone who will not acknowledge the King does not want His Kingdom to come.  Be that as it may, the sinful desires of sinners will not delay His Kingdom when the time for His return is here!

“Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.”
Here is a problem for mankind.  We are praying “Thy will be done” and not “my will be done.”  A look at the scriptures shows us that man has an enormous problem with his own will.

All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on Him the iniquity of us all,” (Isaiah 53:6).

Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.  Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonor their own bodies between themselves: Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen, (Romans 1:22-25).

Mankind’s self-will troubles began in Eden with Adam and Eve listening to Satan (in the serpent), instead of obeying God and doing His will.  Unless God does a transforming work in the sinner’s heart, he is bound to do his own will every time!  And even believers need to guard their hearts lest they stray into their following their desires and not God’s will.

Someday God’s will is going to be the norm on this earth once again.  In this age, God’s will is a constant in Heaven.  Imagine this earth with everyone doing what God says!

Believer, how’s your will doing?  Are you, through the Holy Spirit keeping it in check.  Are you struggling to obey God’s Word?  Or, are you daily walking with the Lord in His Word?  That could be at the heart of your problem; you just aren’t spending the time with the Lord that you ought to be spending with Him.  Remember, we are here to serve Him and not ourselves.  We owe everything to Him!

Today, I see in this verse that My God is the Sovereign King!
