The Best News Ever! (Part 2 of 5)

Jesus' death, burial, and resurrection were no surprise to Him.  He came to earth - "to seek and to save the lost."  His work on Calvary, His burial in a borrowed tomb, and His resurrection were all designed by His Father.  Without these well-planned events, we could have no salvation!

"And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead?  He is not here, but is risen: remember how He spake unto you when He was yet in Galilee, saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again."

Luke 24:5-7

Part 2

Yesterday:  His Followers Despair, After Their Master’s Death
“And as they were afraid and bowed down their faces to the earth.”
“They said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead?” (a)

The disciple’s depression is understandable (from a mortal point of view).  But this is about to change.  The angel’s words will turn their mourning into gladness!

Today:  Jesus Could not Remain Dead!

“They said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead?” (b)

“Why seek ye the living among the dead?”

Dear friend, have you ever considered this about Jesus?  How can He, the “Prince of Life” (Acts 3:15) be killed, unless He permitted it?   And how could Jesus, the very source and giver of life to all of His creation, remain dead?  Impossible!

John, in his Gospel, gives us valuable insight into Jesus and “His life.”

In Him [Jesus] was life, and the life was the light of men” (John 1:4).

“For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath He given to the Son to have life in himself” (John 5:26).

Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live” (John 11:25).

“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14:6).

“But these [“signs”] are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name” (John 20:31).

If we are seeking eternal life, should we not go to the one who is life?  God’s Word is clear on this, Jesus Christ has come to this lost world to provide life, eternal life, to believing sinners.  Friend, here are some questions for you about your response to what Jesus did for you.

Have you seen yourself as a sinner?  We were all newborn sinners, pagans in this life, lost and unable to save ourselves. We have all broken God’s Law. We are guilty.

Do you understand that Jesus Christ has paid your sin-debt, as He died on the cross?  You can never work for your salvation or even pay to have your sin forgiven!  Jesus did this freely for you when He died as the perfect sacrifice, in your place, for your sin.

Have you placed your faith, your trust, in Jesus’ work on the cross for you?  There is nothing else in this life that you can trust to give you salvation, only Jesus.

Have you individually, for yourself, “called upon the name of the Lord” for your salvation? (Romans 10:13).  This is a personal reaching out to God and asking Him in faith for His salvation.  It is requesting Him to apply His Calvary work to your account, to forgive your sin, and to save you.  It is a turning to Jesus from your sin.  He is our only hope to be saved.

Tomorrow we will see the best part of the Resurrection Day message.  Please come back then! Blessings!

Quote:  “It is not thy hold on Christ that saves thee; it is Christ.  It is not thy joy in Christ that saves thee; it is Christ. It is not even thy faith in Christ, though that be the instrument; it is Christ’s blood and merit”[1] (Charles Spurgeon).
