In whom [Jesus] we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace."
Ephesians 1:7b
Part 2
Yesterday we learned of the Savior’s redemption for us as sinners. He redeemed us when He repurchased us from the slave block of sin. What a Savior! But what did it cost the Savior, what was the purchase price of our redemption?
“In whom we have redemption.”
“Through his blood,”
The price of our redemption was not cheap! Its cost was the precious blood of Jesus to buy us back.
“And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven,” (Colossians 1:20).
“Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time,” (1 Timothy 2:6).
This needs to be said here, there can be no redemption apart from the precious blood of Jesus Christ. There is no other way of salvation. It’s not our works, or who our parents are, or how much money we have, it is only the blood of Jesus that paid redemption’s price.
“Jesus does not redeem us by His sinless life or His moral example, but only by His death in our place – by His blood. ‘Observe, it is not redemption through his power, it is through his blood. It is not redemption through his love, it is through his blood’.”1 (Spurgeon)
If “Jesus’ blood” is removed from God’s plan of man’s redemption, there is no redemption, God’s plan has been gutted.
“Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot,” (1 Peter 1:18-19).
“The forgiveness of sins,”
Among other things, our redemption provides for us “forgiveness of sins.” Or as the original language states, “the remission of trespasses.”
“According to the riches of his grace.”
Jesus redeems and forgives with grace that is gigantic! He is not at all stingy with His grace, and we never need worry that there isn’t enough grace to go around.
“That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus,” (Ephesians 2:7).
He has plenty of grace available for repentant sinners!
Have you been redeemed by the blood of the Lamb? If so, thank the Lord and share what God has done in your life with others!
Redeemed2
By Fanny J. Crosby
1 Redeemed—how I love to proclaim it!
Redeemed by the blood of the Lamb;
Redeemed through His infinite mercy,
His child, and forever, I am.
Chorus:
Redeemed, redeemed,
Redeemed by the blood of the Lamb;
Redeemed, redeemed,
His child, and forever, I am.
2 Redeemed and so happy in Jesus,
No language my rapture can tell;
I know that the light of His presence
With me doth continually dwell.
3 I think of my blessed Redeemer,
I think of Him all the day long;
I sing, for I cannot be silent;
His love is the theme of my song.
4 I know I shall see in His beauty
The King in whose way I delight;
Who lovingly guardeth my footsteps,
And giveth me songs in the night.
