"And I say unto you, Make to yourselves friends of the mammon of unrighteousness; that, when ye fail, they may receive you into everlasting habitations."

Luke 16:9

Part 2

Yesterday:
“And I say unto you,”
“Make to yourselves friends of the mammon of unrighteousness;”

Today:

If you are in the habit of spending all you earn in every paycheck, you will have a tough time investing in the future.  This is why “planning ahead” is so important.  If you do not know how to budget your finances, you can get help from those who know how to use money well.  There may even be a financial planner going to your church.  Ask your pastor for some ideas of who you can get help from.

“If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches?” (Luke 16:11).

Jesus expects us to be faithful with our money (“unrighteous mammon”).  Why does He require us to be “faithful” with our finances?”

“That, when ye fail,”

“Then, when those things are gone” (HSB, Luke 16:9c).

Earthly fortunes will not last forever, they will fail.  For that matter, we will not last forever on this earth, but we will die, and then there is heaven for God’s children.  This is why it is so crucial for us to plan ahead and invest in the eternal.  Don’t be wealthy here on earth and a pauper in eternity!

“They may receive you into everlasting habitations.”

“You will be welcomed into a home that lasts forever” (HSB, Luke 16:9d).

When it is our time to die and move on to heaven, we will meet our Savior face to face.  Here are the words we want to hear from Him.

“His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord,” (Matthew 25:23).

How are your eternal investments coming?  In heaven, you will not be sorry that you invested here on earth.
