"In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge."
Proverbs 14:26
Part 2
Yesterday:
“In the fear of the LORD.”
“Is strong confidence:”
Fearing the Lord puts us in a place of confidence in Him.
Today:
“And his children shall have a place of refuge.”
There is no greater joy than for a parent to see his child place his trust in the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior. When our children follow the Lord, we rejoice in their faith. It is wonderful to watch our children grow in grace.
A parent’s life can have a profound influence on his child for righteousness. This is especially true when it comes to the Biblical beliefs of the parent. Provided that mom or dad has shared his/her faith with their child and has been faithful in their modeling of a godly life, they can significantly influence their child for God. Teaching children the “fear of the LORD” is the primary job of each parent.
“I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old: Which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us. We will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done,” (Psalm 78:2-4).
We are to be pointing our children to God. We show our children how He has worked in our lives. We will teach them how to praise and worship Him. We will teach our children the goodness of God so that they will be able to teach their children someday.
“That the generation to come might know them, even the children which should be born; who should arise and declare them to their children,” (Psalm 78:6).
And why is it so vital that we teach our children the “fear of the LORD?”
“That they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments: And might not be as their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation; a generation that set not their heart aright, and whose spirit was not steadfast with God,” (Psalm 78:7-8).
We desire for our children to have hope in God, to be mindful of what He has done, to keep His commandments, to have a heart that is right with Him. Their souls need to be anchored in Him.
You see, when our children know the LORD personally, they have a place of refuge, and they are safe.
