"The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing."
Psalm 34:10
Have you ever watched a hungry lion? Those who have watched nature programs on television have seen young hungry lions. Because they are young they don’t have the well developed hunting skills of their elders. They often track their prey only to lose it because of their immature skills or clumsy reflexes. The very young lions cannot hunt at all. They must wait for the older lions to make the kill so they can eat. They are totally dependent on others to give them their food.
We who know the LORD are dependent upon Him, but unlike the hungry lions who depend on their elders, we never miss out on having our needs met as we walk with the LORD. The word “lack” in our verse means, “to be poor, be in want, lack.”1 The young lions are lacking, but we believers are not!
“But they that seek the LORD…”
Are you a seeker of the LORD? Do you seek Him for your soul’s salvation? Do you seek Him as the Giver of grace and mercy? Do you seek Him as the Provider for your needs? Do you seek Him as your Friend? Do you seek to have His smile on your life? Do you seek Him as the One “from whom all blessings flow?” Are you honestly seeking the LORD? If so, then this promise is for you…
You, “Shall not want any good thing.”
God is good, and He only gives good gifts to His child. “For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly,” (Psalm 84:11). So what does it mean when I think I have a need, and I pray and ask the Lord to provide, but I never receive it? This can be a frustration, especially if I’ve made that thing an idol in my heart. If I’ve prayed for it and the Lord hasn’t provided it, then I must conclude that God knew it was not a “good thing” for me, at least at the present time. We can be assured that God will always give His children our real needs. “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus,” (Philippians 4:19).
Why not thank the Lord right now for His provision for your life?
