Living Like a Blessed Man (Part 3 of 3)

My sin needs no encouragement from other sinners.

October 3, 2020

"Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful."

Psalm 1:1

Part 3

Yesterday:
“Nor standeth in the way of sinners.”
The believer would rather die than to be counted with sinners.

Today:
The sinner,

He is walking with sinners!
He is standing with sinners!

“Nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.”

He is sitting with sinners!

The sinner has “arrived” when he has become at one with the others.  You cannot tell one sinner from the other; they are all alike, especially in their hatred for God.  Sinners love other sinners.

“Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same but have pleasure in them that do them” (Romans 1:32).

The believer can never be comfortable sitting with sinners.

David would not allow himself to get comfy with the wicked.

“I have not sat with vain persons, neither will I go in with dissemblers.  I have hated the congregation of evil-doers; and will not sit with the wicked” (Psalm 26:4).

What do we know about the sinner?

He is walking with sinners!
He is standing with sinners!
He is sitting with sinners!

And

He is scorning with sinners!

They started perhaps with sin as an infatuation.  Still, now their downward transformation is complete, they sound like the sinners they embrace.

The Scorners are “scoffers, who make that which is divine, holy, and true a subject of frivolous jesting” (K&D).

These are the mockers of anyone who will live a godly life.  And those who try to live life for Christ, will these mockers harang and do their best to discourage like sharks going after fresh blood in the water.

“How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?” (Proverb 1:22).

Beware, sinners, God has His eye on the scorners.

“Surely he scorneth the scorners: but he giveth grace unto the lowly” (Proverbs 3:34).

If you are lost without Jesus Christ as your Savior, let me beg you to turn to Him today!  Only He can forgive you.  Turn from your sin to Him.  He loves you and has already paid the debt of your sin.  As you give yourself wholly to Him, you will see that He alone can “break the power of [your] canceled sin!”

Believers, let’s remember His sacrifice for our sin.  Let us keep short sin accounts with our God!

Quote:  “There is no repentance where a man can talk lightly of sin, much less where he can speak tenderly and lovingly of it”[1] (Charles Spurgeon).
