"Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful."
Psalm 1:1
Part 2
Yesterday:
“Blessed is the man.”
This “blessed” believer is careful how he/she spends his/her time, and who the time is spent with.
“That walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly.”
Believers are uncomfortable in the presence of the wicked who hate God. Other than to witness, they are cautious of “walking” with them.
Today:
Unlike the evil man/woman, the believer is not walking in the way of wrong people.
“Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men. Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away” (Proverbs 4:14-15).
The problem for a believer walking with sinners is that he/she will end up listening to their guidance and advice. Their counsel will never lead anyone to God, but their well-traveled route is always away from Him! Our cry should be the cry of David,
“Hide me from the secret counsel of the wicked; from the insurrection of the workers of iniquity” (Psalm 64:2).
The sinner,
He is walking with sinners!
“Nor standeth in the way of sinners.”
He is standing with sinners!
This is not a problem for the wicked. The sinner stands with them. He is one of their own, and he is counted with them. Their evil work has become his/her work. We should point out that these “sinners” are not as carefree as they want us to believe. God has their number, and He keeps tabs on them.
“But the wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt. There is no peace, saith my God, to the wicked” (Isaiah 57:20-21).
These evil people have no idea where they are going because they cannot see their path. “The blind are leading the blind.”
“The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble” (Proverbs 4:19).
As much as they want us to think that they are in control and having the time of their lives, God says otherwise!
“Good understanding giveth favor: but the way of transgressors is hard” (Proverbs 13:15).
The life of those on the run from God is difficult.
Why is it that sinners love to mock all those believers trying to do right and live for God? Tomorrow we will see what the Bible says about that. Come back and let’s talk.
Quote: “Wisdom is better than weapons of war: but one sinner destroyeth much good” (Ecclesiastes 9:18).
