Keep Your Promises (Part 2)

Maybe God doesn't answer my prayer because I don't keep my promises to Him.

January 10, 2019

"Offer unto God thanksgiving; and pay thy vows unto the most High: And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me."

Psalm 50:14-15

Part 2

Yesterday we saw:
“Offer unto God thanksgiving;”
“And pay thy vows unto the most High:”
Keep your promises to God.

Today:
“And call upon me in the day of trouble:”
Barnes calls this both a duty and a privilege.  For those who know God personally, He expects us to call on Him when we are going through trouble.  Where we look for help when we are in trouble shows where our heart is.  We should look first to our God for help.  We confide in Him when we have needs.  This shows where our trust and confidence is.  “Tell it to Jesus.”

“I will deliver thee,”
He will deliver us.  And like the three Hebrew children in the fiery furnace, we know He will deliver us either by life or by death.  He knows what is best for us.  We trust Him to do the best thing for us in any circumstance.

“And thou shalt glorify me.”
My job is to glorify Him with my life (1 Corinthians 10:31).  What we do and say needs to count for God and His cause.

Tell it to Jesus1
By Jeremiah Eames Rankin

Are you weary, are you heavyhearted?
Tell it to Jesus,
Tell it to Jesus;
Are you grieving over joys departed?
Tell it to Jesus alone.

Chorus:
Tell it to Jesus, tell it to Jesus,
He is a friend that’s well-known;
You’ve no other such a friend or brother,
Tell it to Jesus alone.

2 Do the tears flow down your cheeks unbidden?
Tell it to Jesus,
Tell it to Jesus;
Have you sins that to men’s eyes are hidden?
Tell it to Jesus alone.

[Chorus]

3 Do you fear the gath’ring clouds of sorrow?
Tell it to Jesus,
Tell it to Jesus;
Are you anxious what shall be tomorrow?
Tell it to Jesus alone.

[Chorus]

4 Are you troubled at the thought of dying?
Tell it to Jesus,
Tell it to Jesus;
For Christ’s coming kingdom are you sighing?
Tell it to Jesus alone.
