This verse is in such an essential chapter of 1 Corinthians that I’m afraid sometimes it might get overlooked. There is much packed into these few words. They are words that are vital to our future.
“And God hath both raised up the Lord.”
It is God’s power that raised up Jesus Christ from the dead on the third day. We always need to be mindful of the fact that Jesus has already been raised up. We, believers, are sure of our justification, because Christ was raised again.
“Who was delivered for our offenses, and was raised again for our justification” (Romans 4:25).
Because our Lord and Savior has arisen from the dead, so shall we!
“But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept. For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive” (1 Corinthians 15:20-22).
Jesus was just the first to be raised to the “resurrection of life.” He is pictured as “the firstfruits of them that slept.” This Old Testament picture is of the “wave offering.” The farmers would take the very first of their new harvest and offer it to the Lord, knowing that He would provide a more abundant harvest in the coming days. Jesus was the first to rise, and He will raise His children also!
“And will also raise up us by His own power.”
God raised up Jesus, and He “will also raise up us!”
“But if the Spirit of Him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, He that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by His Spirit that dwelleth in you” (Romans 8:11).
“For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth whom He will” (John 5:21).
“Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live” (John 5:25).
Believers, take heart, and praise the Lord for His salvation!
