God shelters His child during the storms of life.

"For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion: in the secret of His tabernacle shall He hide me; He shall set me up upon a rock."

Psalm 27:5

Part 1

In Psalm 27, David bares his soul before the Lord.  This is the real David, and these are the longings of his heart.  Please take the time to read the entire Psalm before you proceed reading further.

Here is David’s focal point, his one desire, his one pursuit…

“One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple” (Psalm 27:4).

David understood that in this life, having a single goal will bring success.  A divided heart, with divided goals, will only distract us to no end.  It will lead us to disappointment and into temptations because of our weaknesses. “One thing have I desired of the LORD,” only one thing is the desire of his heart.  With the problems that David is facing, what might his “one desire” be?  It could be for safety, for victory, or for the ability to get some rest somewhere away from his enemies.  It could have been countless other things, but no, all he wants is to be living with his LORD.

With David’s wise choice for constant closeness to his Lord, he knew he will be where he needs to be when trouble comes.

“For in the time of trouble.”
Note it is not “if” trouble comes, but “when” it comes.  Every believer faces crisis times.  Whether it is from our own foolish doing, or from living on a planet filled with sinful people, trouble will be coming for us.  Living in the presence of the Lord, David is in the best place where he needs to be to face his problems.

Believer, how near are you to your Lord?  The closer you are, the better, for trouble is stalking you.

Come back tomorrow, and we will see how and where God hides us when we are afflicted.
