I Love the LORD (Part 2)

Answered prayer is another reason to love God.

"I love the LORD, because he hath heard my voice and my supplications."

Psalm 116:1

Part 2

Yesterday:

“I love the LORD,”
Our best gift we can give to the Lord is ourselves.

Today:

“Because he hath heard my voice and my supplications.”
On the surface, this phrase seems like it could have a self-centered, ulterior motive for telling the LORD that we love Him.  It’s somewhat as my brother many years ago, when as a child he took a young boy with him to visit our grandmother.  He told his friend, “just give my grandma a kiss and she will give you a cookie.”

I’m afraid that often our prayer is nothing more than this, it’s only a way to get what we want from God.  We keep Him in a box, tucked away somewhere in a safe place until we need Him.  And then we take Him out, say a few nice words to Him, and hold out our hands for what we want from Him.  There are multiple difficulties with this kind of thinking!

Prayer is so much more than that.  It is how we communicate with the God who loves us! It is a part of our worship to Him.  How we are blessed to be able to talk with the One who cares for us.  Can you see from this verse how the believer’s prayer is valuable to our God?  “He hath heard my voice and my supplications!”  Because He loves us, He listens to His child who speaks to Him!  He wants us to talk with Him.  And yes, He does meet our needs.  We need to think about our motives as we talk with our LORD.

I Love You, Lord
By Laurie Klein

I love you, Lord
And I lift my voice
To worship you
Oh my soul rejoice
Take joy, my king
In what you hear
May it be a sweet sweet sound
In your ear.
