“For I Know That My Redeemer Liveth” (Part 2 of 2)

Believers don't fear the grave because they know what's coming after the grave.

April 12, 2020

"For I know that my Redeemer liveth, and that He shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God."

Job 19:25-26

“He has Risen!”
Have a wonderful Resurrection Day!

Part 2

Yesterday:
“For I know that my redeemer liveth.”
Our Redeemer is alive!  We are dying, but He will make us live again!

“And that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth.”
Our Redeemer will come back and stand on the empty graves of His children!  He is the Victor!

Today:
“And though after my skin worms destroy this body.”
Job is not concerned about what happens to his physical body after he dies.

“The Hebrew is literally, ‘and after my skin.’  Gesenius translates it, ‘After they shall have destroyed my skin, this shall happen – that I will see God’”[1] (Barnes).

These earthly mortal bodies are in the process of dying.  In the grave, that process will be completed.  We are dust, and we return to the dust.

Once more, we see Job’s faith…
“Yet in my flesh, shall I see God.”
After being raised from the dead, his soul reuniting with his body, with his human, bodily eyes – he will see his Redeemer.

“… my flesh, or body, being raised from the grave and reunited to my soul: (which is very fitly added, to show that he did not speak of a mental or spiritual, but of a corporeal vision, and that after his death:) shall I see God….  The same whom he called his Redeemer…”[2] (Benson).

Believers rejoice!

“For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself” (Philippians 3:20-21).

Dear child of God, do not fret or fear if God chooses to take us home before Christ’s return, we can say these words with Job!

I Know that My Redeemer Liveth[3]
By Jessie Brown Pounds

1) I know that my Redeemer liveth,
And on the earth again shall stand;
I know eternal life He giveth,
That grace and power are in His hand.

Chorus:
I know, I know that Jesus liveth,
And on the earth again shall stand;
I know, I know that life He giveth,
That grace and power are in His hand.

2) I know His promise never faileth,
The word He speaks, it cannot die;
Tho’ cruel death my flesh assaileth,
Yet I shall see Him by and by.

3) I know my mansion He prepareth,
That where He is there I may be;
Oh, wondrous thought, for me He careth,
And He at last will come for me.
