"God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of His Son Jesus Christ our Lord."
1 Corinthians 1:9
Part 2
Yesterday:
“God is faithful.”
Yes, He is the one called “Faithful and True!”
“By whom ye were called unto the fellowship of His Son.”
He brought us into the fellowship of His Son. We are blessed!
Today:
“Jesus Christ, our Lord.”
Believers, we are called into the fellowship of Jesus Christ, our Lord. We are not on our own in this sinful world.
“That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ” (John 1:3).
Because our God is faithful, shouldn’t we emulate Him?
Our Bible tells us of believers who God believes to be reliable:
The apostle Paul was a choice servant of the Lord.
“And I thank Christ Jesus for our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry” (1 Timothy 1:12).
Moses, Israel’s great leader, was a trustworthy man of God (Hebrews 3:2).
“Who was faithful to him that appointed him, as also Moses was faithful in all his house” (Hebrews 3:2).
One of Paul’s disciples, Tychicus, was also a dependable minister of the Lord.
“But that ye also may know my affairs, and how I do, Tychicus, a beloved brother and faithful minister in the Lord shall make known to you all things” (Ephesians 6:21).
A runaway slave that Paul met while he was in prison, by the name of Onesimus, after his conversion, Paul found him to be devoted to the Lord.
“With Onesimus, a faithful and beloved brother, who is one of you. They shall make known unto you all things which are done here” (Colossians 4:9).
In the New Testament, faithfulness is a high ideal for every believer, with no exceptions.
Each Christian is to be a committed believer, a real child of God.
“Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised)” (Hebrews 10:23).
In John chapter 15, we learn that our Lord expects us to abide-remain, in Him for good. It is for the long run, and we are to be strictly abiding in Him.
Every saint (each believer) is expected to be faithful to Christ, as were the Ephesians.
“Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, to the saints which are at Ephesus, and to the faithful in Christ Jesus” (Ephesians 1:1).
Discipleship is only for the loyal believers, real followers of Christ.
“And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also” (2 Timothy 2:2).
Believing parents are to be training their children to be devoted to the Lord also.
“If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly” (Titus 1:6).
All the believers listed in Hebrews chapter 11 are faithful men and women. They all lived through difficult times, yet they trusted in God and remained loyal to Him.
Believers, how will our Lord describe us? Faithful? Or Faithless?
