Be Faithful (Part 1 of 2)

Christians are faithful because their God is faithful.

"God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of His Son Jesus Christ our Lord."

1 Corinthians 1:9

Part 1

“God is faithful.”
I must admit it seems strange for me to be telling you that God is faithful.  Of course, this is true!  If you are a student of the Word, and you have known Him for very long, you know that this is obviously a part of His character.  We won’t take the time to try to prove His faithfulness, but let me describe it as we find it in the Scriptures.

He is the faithful God of Israel and the covenant (Deuteronomy 9:7).

He is faithful in His rule (Hosea 11:12).

His faithfulness directly affects believers:

He is our faithful High Priest.

“Wherefore in all things it behooved him to be made like unto His brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people” (Hebrews 2:17; 3:1-2).

He is always faithful, even if we are faithless.

“If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself” (2 Timothy 2:13).

He is faithful to help us even when we are tempted to sin.

“There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it” (1 Corinthians 10:13).

He is faithful when He forgives our confessed sin.

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9).

He is faithful when He establishes us and keeps us from sin.

“But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil” (2 Thessalonians 3:3).

He is the faithful Witness (Revelation 1:5; 3:14).

He is “Faithful” and “True” (Revelation 19:11).

Isn’t it interesting how many times when the Word describes God as faithful, that His faithfulness directly affects us?  God is looking out for and taking care of us in providing for our needs always.  Oh, Mighty God, how great thou art!

“By whom ye were called unto the fellowship of His Son.”
Our heavenly Father has called us.  Obviously, we are not “believers” by accident.  The Father has called us to this exalted place of fellowship.  We are children of the King!

“Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it” (1 Thessalonians 5:24).

Our Father has called us, and He will preserve us blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus (1 Thessalonians 5:23).

What does the fact of God’s faithfulness mean to us in our lives for Him?  Come back tomorrow, and let’s learn more about how this characteristic of faithfulness affects our role.
