"Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident."
Psalm 27:3
“Though an host should encamp against me,”
Ever feel outnumbered and overwhelmed? David did. He knew what it was to have a whole army out to get him, a group of men in battle array going after him. Even in times of distress by an outward enemy ready to swallow him up and kill him, he would not let this cause him to fear.
“The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower,” (Psalm 18:2).
“Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God,” (Psalm 20:7).
“My heart shall not fear:”
David said when his enemy came upon him, they stumbled and fell (v. 2). He had confidence in his God. He refused to let men cause him to fear. He knew that when one fears God, it is not necessary to fear men.
“In God, I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me,” (Psalm 56:4).
“The LORD is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me? (Psalm 118:6).
“Though war should rise against me,”
And it will! The evil one will see to that. He hates you! He is the enemy of your soul. He will do what he can to see that you live a defeated life. But even in this, I will not fear! My Lord is greater than all the demons of Hell!
“Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world,” (1 John 4:4).
“In this will I be confident.”
I have no worries in any of this because my confidence is not in my own feeble strength but in my God! As the hymn writer said, “The arm of flesh will fail you, ye dare not trust your own!”
“Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ,” (Philippians 1:6).
Believer, whatever the disaster that may arise in your life, you may have confidence in God that He is not surprised by the threat to you, and He can meet your need regardless of what the danger is. He will perform His plan in you.
