Approved Words and Thoughts (Part 2 of 2)

What I say, and what I think, needs to be up to God's standard.

"Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer."

Psalm 19:14

Part 2

Yesterday:
“Let the words of my mouth.”
Everything, I say.

“And the meditation of my heart.”
Everything, I think.

Today:
What is the goal of my speech?  Who sets the bar?  Should my talk conform to my boss’s requirements?  My spouse’s principles?  My Sunday school teacher’s guidelines?  NO!  Those targets are all too low!

“Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart…”

“Be acceptable in thy sight.”
What God thinks about our thoughts and speech is what really matters.  We need to remember that the One who said that we will give an accounting for “every idle word” (Matthew 26:36) is listening.  Our words and thoughts matter to Him!

“Words of the mouth are mockery if the heart does not meditate; the shell is nothing without the kernel, but both together are useless unless accepted; and even if accepted by man, it is all vanity if not acceptable in the sight of God”[1] (Spurgeon).

This is why our talk at home, work, school, and church matters because God is listening.

“O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.”
David said the LORD is his “rock,” his “strength.”  And he spoke of Him as his “redeemer” (goel).

“Redeemer is that great Hebrew word goel, the kinsman-redeemer.  It was the goel who bought his relative out of slavery; who rescued him in bankruptcy and total loss.  King David looked to God Himself as his kinsman-redeemer”[2] (Guzik).

“If our Rock were not our Redeemer, we should be without hope.  If our Redeemer were not our Rock, still might we be afraid.  It is good that we never forget the mutual interpretation of these two revelations of God”[3] (Morgan).

What a blessed thought, our Creator is our LORD, our God.  He has made us and redeemed us!  And it is He that cares about our words and thoughts.

“Let the words of my mouth,
and the meditation of my heart,
be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD,
my strength, and my redeemer.” Amen.

Quote:  “For he that in these things serveth Christ is acceptable to God, and approved of men.  Let us, therefore, follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another (Romans 14:18-19).
