When God's People Suffer

You have heard ungodly people ask this question, “If there is a God, and He is good, why does He allow suffering?” And even believers going through difficult trials are tempted to ask similar questions. However, believers understand that we live in a sin-cursed world (Genesis 3:16-19), and as a result of man’s Fall all humans suffer. We all suffer in kind, but maybe not to the same extent. The better question for the believer to ask is, “Since there is suffering in this world, how does our loving Father respond to the suffering of His child?” This month’s blogs are looking at the Scriptures to see how God uses suffering in our lives, and how He works in us through our difficulties. May these thoughts be both challenging to, and a refreshment for your soul.

When treated wrongly, we have the opportunity to speak God's praise through our words and actions.

"Have mercy upon me, O LORD; consider my trouble which I suffer of them that hate me, thou that liftest me up from the gates of death: That I may show forth all thy praise in the gates of the daughter of Zion: I will rejoice in thy salvation."

"Glory" with Christ follows "suffering" with Christ.

"Prayer changes things!"  It begins by changing my attitude about my problems.

"Is any among you afflicted? let him pray.  Is any merry? let him sing psalms."

James 5:13

God allows His children to suffer, but He never allows their affliction to destroy them.

Real security is not found in a job, insurance, or the stock market, but only in a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.

"For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day."

If Christ suffered, why shouldn't His followers suffer also?

"For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps."
