The Lord knows and protects the way of the upright person.  There will be no disappointment in following God!

"The LORD knoweth the days of the upright: and their inheritance shall be for ever.  They shall not be ashamed in the evil time: and in the days of famine they shall be satisfied."

Psalm 37:18-19

What a blessing the words of our verses for today are.  What David learn by his life experience with the LORD, he wrote that we might understand more of how our great God cares for His child.

“The LORD knoweth the days of the upright:”
God knows all.  That fact is taught throughout the Word of God.  Here we have some insight into God’s knowledge of us.  He “knows the days of the upright.”  Nothing is coming in our future, that is, in our lives that God is unaware of.  As you read these words, God already knows what this day and week hold in store for you.  He is never surprised by the things that surprise us in life.  He knows what is coming and He cares about you if you are His child, one of “the upright.”

Are you one of those who have been redeemed by the blood of the Lamb? Then take heart:

“For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish,” (Psalm 1:6).

Do you trust Him with your life?  Then remember:

“The LORD is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him,” (Nahum 1:7).

Do you belong to the LORD?  If so, then rejoice:

“Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal,  The Lord knoweth them that are his.  And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity,” (2 Timothy 2:19).

God sees all of my troubles, and He knows what I am going through:

“I will be glad and rejoice in thy mercy: for thou hast considered my trouble; thou hast known my soul in adversities,” (Psalm 31:7).

“And their inheritance shall be for ever.”
Your inheritance in Christ is settled!  You have been raised up,  “To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,” (1 Peter 1:4).

“They shall not be ashamed in the evil time:”
You will never be disappointed by the LORD!  Even during evil days of trouble as you cast yourself on the mercy of God,  He will show His faithfulness once again.

“And in the days of famine, they shall be satisfied.”
Spurgeon reminds us that our God will provide for us, either by the little pot of flour and cruse of oil, or by the ravens bringing us our food, or He will provide in some other way.  We do well to trust Him explicitly!
